The second day of the National Prayer Conference 2026 brought participants face-to-face with an important question:
What must change in people for genuine national transformation to take place?
Under the theme, “Virtue and Equity: The Nation’s Bedrock,” the day’s speakers emphasised that transformed societies can only be built by transformed people.
The Need to Disciple a Virtuous Nation
Speaking on the principles of discipling a virtuous nation, Pastor Steven Atria reflected on Psalm 89:14 and highlighted four principles associated with God’s throne: righteousness, justice, steadfast love and faithfulness.
These, he explained, must move beyond being biblical ideals and become part of the character of God’s people. Virtue is demonstrated through moral integrity, impartiality, compassion and trustworthiness.
The challenge to the Church was clear: Uganda cannot become a virtuous nation without intentionally forming virtuous people.
Pastor Atria also highlighted the need to address the discipleship gap within the Church. Christian transformation must go beyond attending church and participating in spiritual activities. Faith must be evident in the home, workplace, business, leadership, and every other sphere of life.
Believers were challenged to understand what it means to live out Kingdom values within their professions and areas of influence.
Transformation Must Begin at Home
Some of the emphasis was on the critical role of the family in forming the next generation.
A call was made for intentional discipleship within families, with parents and guardians taking responsibility for raising children grounded in wisdom, faith, love, character and resolve.
Participants reflected on the weakening of structures that traditionally provide identity, belonging and protection, particularly for young people. The message is clear: if families and communities do not intentionally help form the next generation, other influences will.
Preparing the Next Generation
Through discussions on the challenges facing society and young people today, participants were reminded of the urgent need to prepare a generation capable of standing firm in an increasingly complex world.
The Church, families and wider society were challenged to work together to ensure that young people are not only educated for careers but also equipped with strong moral and spiritual foundations.
Reconciliation and Unity
Another important message was centred on reconciliation. True unity cannot simply be declared; it must be built through healed relationships, forgiveness, trust and steadfast love.
Participants were reminded that national transformation also requires people who are willing to deal honestly with conflict, overcome bitterness and pursue reconciliation.
Transformation in Every Sphere
The call for transformation extended beyond the Church into every area of society, including:
- Family
- Education
- Business
- Media
- Government
- Arts and entertainment
The message was that every sphere of society needs people of character who can demonstrate righteousness, justice, love and faithfulness in their areas of influence.
The Work Ahead
Day Two made one thing clear: national transformation is deeply personal.
The nation is made up of people, and its institutions, families and communities reflect the character of those who lead and serve within them.
The conference therefore challenged participants to ask:
What must be transformed in me?
The journey towards a more equitable society requires virtuous people—people of integrity, compassion, justice and faithfulness.
As the National Prayer Conference continues, the call remains clear:
We cannot build a virtuous nation without intentionally forming virtuous people.
Transformation must begin in the heart, continue in the home and Church, and extend into every sphere of society.
Only then can virtue and equity truly become the nation’s bedrock.
